Learning from the Causes of Failures of Offshore Riser Emergency Shutdown Valves
نویسنده
چکیده
Riser emergency shutdown valves (RESDVs) are an essential risk reduction measure for offshore installations and are a legal requirement under the Pipelines Safety Regulations 1996. The RESDV should isolate the topsides from the well and subsea pipeline in the event of an emergency shutdown, to reduce the inventory for loss of containment or when required for maintenance. RESDV failures, whether arising from a test or a real demand, are reportable to HSE under the RIDDOR regulations and a preliminary survey found approximately 180 cases of failure in a seven year period. Given the criticality of RESDVs to offshore safety, it was determined that the reasons for these occurrences should be investigated with a view to focussing inspection topics and identifying areas for future improvement across the industry.

Steel Catenary Riser-Seabed Interaction Due to Caspian Sea Environmental Conditions
This paper investigates the integrated riser/vessel system which is subjected to random waves. Riser pipelines are the main components of the oil and gas offshore platforms. Whereas Iran country has been located on the fringes of Caspian Sea deep water, therefore study and research in this area is increasingly essential. The fluctuation of floating production causes the severe response and grea...
متن کاملInvestigation of Slug Suppression System in Deepwater Scenario
In pipeline-riser systems, pressure fluctuations which result from the formation of large liquid slugs and gas surges due to operational changes or low mass flow rate from production wells and the profile of pipeline-riser systems often lead to trips at the inlet of the separator; and thereby, the problem causes a a loss of the production. In this study, on a sample deep-water oil field off the ...
متن کاملAn Influence of Trench Formation on Steel Catenary Risers Based on a Hysteretic Nonlinear Seabed Model
A steel catenary riser (SCR) attached to a floating platform at its upper end encounters fluctuations in and near its touchdown zone (TDZ), which causes the interaction with the seabed. Subsea surveys and the analysis of SCR’s indicated that the greatest stress and highest damage occurred near the touchdown point (TDP), where the SCR first touches the seabed. Nowadays, the linear seabed spring ...

متن کاملModeling and Control Solutions for Riser Slugging in Offshore Oil Fields
A highly transient flow regime called riser slugging can develop in pipelines from wellheads to separation tanks which introduces severe oscillations of pressure and flow rates in off-shore processes. Mitigation of the intensity of riser slugging may be achieved via anticipative control actions on valves positioned at the entrance and at gas/oil exits of the separators. In Phase 1, this work is...
